Many beaches have dog bans which run from 1st May to 1st October each year. Equally, there are a number of beaches which welcome well behaved dogs at any time of the year. On this page there are 2 lists of the Cornish Riviera beaches; one of beaches with bans, one of beaches where dogs are welcome. Alternatively, click here to download the 'Dog on Beaches' leaflet for Cornwall (2.7Mb) Please note: All information on this page and on the leaflet is the most recent available, compiled in 2004. When visiting a beach, obey the signs displayed. |

Dog Bins: Please note that The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 applies. Beaches are amongst the most common areas patrolled by officers enforcing the above Act. Fixed penalty notices are issued on a regular basis. Please 'pick up' after your dog and, where available use the dog bins provided.
Dog Welfare : Please remember that, in hot weather, beaches may not be the ideal place to take your dog. Due to the lack of shade or inadequate fresh water, your dog may suffer from heat-related problems. If you are concerned about any dog welfare issue, such as a dog left in a car during hot weather, please contact the RSPCA on 08705 555999 (24hr service at BT local call rates)
Lost Dogs : If you have lost your dog, please contact an appropriate local council as soon as possible to ensure that you are not put to unnecessary expense for kennelling etc. All dogs are required by law to wear a collar and tag bearing the name and address of the owner. If you are on holiday, it is a good idea to have a temporary tag with your holiday address on it. Contact the Local Councils Restormel controls the beaches down to Portholland.
